Google Earth and Google Maps provide interactive access to satellite imagery that are often less than 3 years old.
For special events or natural disasters (e.g. Haiti earthquake) Google has made new satellite imagery available in matter of days or weeks.
If you want more up-to-date imagery then you might want to check the imagery providers directly (e.g. GeoEye, DigitalGlobe, etc.).

Google Maps and Bing Maps are two websites that try to maintain a balance between having high resolution and up-to-date imagery.

You can also download the software 'Google Earth' and take advantage of many of the features such as viewing objects in 3D, flight simulator, view the surface of the Moon or Mars, current traffic conditions and even model buildings into the maps using SketchUp.
