solenoid rebuild kits aren't widely available, due to lack of demand since GM starter solenoids can be had from $13 on up. there's really only one contact switch in a solenoid that wears out to replace, & if you really have to do it yourself, removing the two bolts that hold the plastic end of the solenoid on, will reveal a springloaded set of contacts. you will likely have to fabricate the parts yourself, or just spend the $13 bux & get a new one at autozone.
The starter solenoid is on the Starter, there is a bracket that it bolts to. I am unsure if you can buy one seperate, I have been unable to find one by searching the internet.
Right side of vehicle under the oil filter for 4.0 engines. It is located on the starter. The solenoid is another smaller cylindrical shaped device that is mounted to the starter. If you have to replace it you have to buy the whole starter assembly that comes with a solenoid. I have not found a way to replace only the solenoid. Jeep engineered this to benefit their dealer service garages.
The Amperage draw is so high it locks the starter solenoid. This can be because of a bad starter bushing, low voltage in the battery, timing, etc. It is a major engineering defect in the design. All Fords prior to 1992 have this flaw. It can result in a fire, dead battery, etc. The good news is Ford redesigned their starters in 1992. The new starters will fit the old engines and Ford sells a retrofit kit to rewire the Solenoid for the new starter. The way it corrects the problem is the old solenoid becomes a starter relay, with the output wire now going to a solenoid mounted on the new starter. (This gives you less of a voltage drop at the new solenoid vs the old solenoid, that solves the problem in most cases) You need to buy the kit from Ford (Under $20.00) but you can buy the starter anywhere. Just give them your vehicle information as if you owned a 1993 Ford when buying the starter. You can also get a rebuilt starter from Ford. You could make your own kit, but the Ford Kit is everything you need and comes with instructions (priceless). Warprunner
That means the solenoid IS working, but power is too low to turn the starter. Check and if necessary clean or tighten the battery terminals. If still the same, charge your battery on slow for at least 12 hours, or get another battery.
Remove the starter assembly from the engine compartment. To do this you disconect the neg battery cable.Remove air intake duct and the air cleaner housing assembly from the engine compartment. Disconnect the battery cable and the solenoid terminal from the starter solenoid and remove the mounting bolts. - Remove the electrical connector from the solenoid lower terminal. Remove the solenoid mounting screws and separated the solenoid from the starter body. Installation is the reverse. This answer is from my Haynes manual. Hope it helps
The solenoid is on the driver side fender well next to the battery. You can buy one at kragen or another automotive store for around $20.
I would like to buy a starter without a solenoid.

Attached to the starter itself. However it is not removable. Have to buy a whole new starter.
Don't waste your time or money rebuilding the starter just buy one already rebuilt. If you wish to rebuild your starter for some reason then take the starter off and carry it to a qualified builder for starters and alternators. Even the best automotive mechanics don't build starters or alternators anymore, it's just easier and usually cheaper in the long run to replace it.
Just buy your self a rebuilt starter,Cheaper and easyer

yes. it is often easier and about the same price to just buy a reman. starter though.
well depanding on ther truck if you have a ford with a starter solenoid on the pass firewall when you try to start it with the key it should make a click sound if not you have a bad starter solenoid if a Chevy and your jumping it from the starter it self you have a bad solenoids i would replace it Chevy you can some times buy the solenoid it self but i would buy a new starter just in case
Hi You cant replace the selenoid you have to buy a new starter. No one sells selenoids for these starters.
The soleonoid on the starter is bad. When you buy a new starter it comes with the solenoid. Try tapping on the starter with a hammer if it starts after that then this is your problem
Yes but - you're going to have to find a place to buy the solenoid from.Check your "local" auto parts store - not likely the national/big chains - either for the solenoid separately, or a referral to a starter specialty repair shop.See "Related Questions" below for more about getting the starter out.
