They can be one of two places. Either at the top rear of the engine, or at the front, also on top.
sounds like you have a problem with the ignition if if has coil packs it will do that or it could be the wires but problay the ignition is wore out . it might not look bad but the inside is gone once you put any kind of stress on it

The ignition coil is down between the firewall and the back of the engine
The coil packs are attached to the plug wires. Coil packs are interchangable so when I suspect a bad one, I switch the one next to it to see if the problem moves to the other two cylinders. You can also use a inexpensive spark plug tester that clips on to the wire to see how the coil pack is firing thru the plug wire.
The 93 Beretta does not have a distributor, it has coil packs.
On 1988-1993 V6 models, the coil packs and ignition control module are located at the lower front of the engine, facing the radiator. From 1994-1996, they were moved to the top rear of the engine, pointing slightly toward the cowl area.
If it has the 2.2L engine, yes.

If you have the Quad Four engine, the coils are located beneath the IDI cover on the top of the engine (large plate that says "Quad Four" on it). Remove the IDI cover, and they are located below. If you have the 3.1L MPFI V6, the coil packs are located at the front of the engine, below the exhaust manifold, facing the radiator.

You don't have to, the ECM takes care of that.
4200 Vortec Inline 6 cylinder engine #1 cylinder is at the front of the engine as you stand out front and look at it. Remove the resonator box on top of the motor to expose the coil packs. The spark plugs are under them.
