The port for the block heater is a small hole approx. the size of a quarter located on the windshield side of the motor, closer to the driver side of the car. It is just below the head (top part of motor) in the cylinder block. Make sure the hole is clean of dirt and debris by blowing it out, then simply push the heater element in until it clicks, that's it! ...well then you should plug the cord in... but that's it I swear!
The engine block heater cord for the 2009 Ford Flex is at the top front section of the engine, right above the radiator fan. Open the hood and look down toward the radiator, it is right in front on top of the radiator. The cord has a round cover on it. Remove the round cover and you will see the 3-prong plug-in.
The heating element probably burned out causing the open circuit. The element needs to be submerged in coolant completely, all the time that it is plugged in.

On a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, the thermostat is located in the engine compartment, specifically at the engine's front, near the upper radiator hose. This housing typically contains the thermostat itself, which regulates the engine's coolant flow.
The 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 are all the same block throughout all years. The only thing that really changed was the style of head, the intake, and a roller camshaft. It should be a direct swap for what you are wanting to do however.

I put a 1972 350 old's engine in my 1984 cutlass supreme. It had a 307 and the swap went smooth. It bolted rite up to the turbo 350 transmission also. The engines have the same block so the weight difference was no problem. My cutlass is for sale if you know anyone that is interested. My #573-692-3558 The motor has 20,000 miles on a complete rebuild. Water pump, alternator, carburetor, distributor all new with the rebuild!

To replace the water pump in a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, first disconnect the battery and drain the coolant from the radiator. Remove any components obstructing access, such as the serpentine belt and the alternator, if necessary. Unbolt the water pump from the engine block, clean the gasket surfaces, and install the new pump with a new gasket. Reassemble all components, refill the cooling system with coolant, and check for leaks after starting the engine.
