∙ 16y agoPOSSIBLY A LOOSE GROUND WIRE AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR ON MINE,GOOD LUCK! The most likely cause on the late 80's Bronco & Ranger for headlight problems is the failure of the Dimmer switch connection. I had to completely replace the connector & switch on my '88 Bronco II to resolve the problem.
That depends on the year. 1982 to 1986 used sealed beam headlights, 1987 to 1990 use composite headlights with halogen bulbs. If you have the earlier style: Remove the screws that hold the headlight door in place, then the four screws that hold the sealed beam in. Unplug the connector and reverse procedure to finish installation. Headlight may need to be re-aimed. If you have the later style: Reach behind the headlight and twist the bulb. It should then come out. Unplug the connector. Reverse the procedure to complete the installation.
Answer Actually dimmer switches extend the life of a light bulb, especially if you dim them often.
very simple remove 2 screws holding housing around lever, then u can access switch without any problem i think only remove 2 taps. i worked on my 99 ranger this should be same. bobby russell springs, ky
I don't know what kind of car you have, but if the headlights work in either the dim or bright mode, but not both, I would suspect the dimmer switch. If they don't work at all, the headlight switch is probably the culpret, unless of course both bulbs are burned out, which I have seen on one occassion.
The headlight dimmer switch is located on the end of the lever. Remove the steering column so the lever can be properly reached.

On the '92 sunblrd SE the power for the lights to from fuse to headlight switch to dimmer switch to bulb, no relay involved.
AnswerIf the lights work on the flash to pass but do not work otherwise either the switch is bad or the dimmer switch is bad. I just am working on a 1995 Ranger and found the dimmer switch to be bad. I checked the headlight switch and that was good so I found the dimmer switch to be the problem. I jumped the wires after unplugging the dimmer switch and lights come on. Replace the headlight dimmer switch and good to go! Hope this helps.
