Follow the cable from the solonlid to the starter and simply take the bolts out and remove it. once you find the starter there will be 3 bolts one on the passenger side 15mm one on the driver side 13 mm and on the driver side there will be a 13 mm nut holding on a ground wire remove the nut and then remove the 13mm stud disconnect the 2 wires connected to the solenoid 1 spade connector and 1 10 mm i think pull the starter to the left and slide it over the front crossmember.

from what ive read you can switch the starter relay with the horn relay and give it a try.... if she starts and the horn dont work you have a bad relay

If its anything like a 93 all you do is disconnect the battery, disconnect and mark for reinstallation the wires at the starter. Remove the two bolts that hold it, and drop it out. Make sure to hold on to any shims that might be there.
You have to take off the air intake cover and wires from a sensor located in a elbow like joint for air intake assembly, plus 2 bolts at the top . Unscrew the clamps. Now there are 2 ground connectors/bolts on the front of the starter, remove those too. starter are hanged with 2 bolts, one 18mm at the top and the bottom one is 15mm remove those and free it comes. the '93 cougar can swap parts with any cougar between '89 and '96. Since you have a '93, I'm guessing it's an XR-7 (performance) model, so try to find other XR-7's. You can also interchange parts with the Ford Thunderbird of the same model years.
