Valentine's Day was named after Saint Valentine who was a Roman priest. The Roman Emperor of that time made it illegal for soldiers to get married, so that they wouldn't get homesick or be reluctant to go to war because they had wives and possibly also children back at home. SO, Valentine secretly married couples. Don't know if that helps or not, but that's pretty much it.
