Both of the small posts (pos & neg) are primaries. The large connection is the secondary.
You apply 12 volts to the coil primary and then release it . The electricity will go through the secondary coil and spark the spark pug.
Just a suggestion. I would look into the condencer on the coil you will see it hanging on the right side if the coil.
An ignition coil generally looks like a cylinder with a second cylindrical temp at one end. On top of that same and, there are two primary terminals. Inside of an ignition coil is an iron core surrounded by coils of thin wire.

Short answer: Fires the spark plugs. The ignition coil is nothing more that an electrical transformer. It contains both primary and secondary winding circuits. The coil primary winding contains 100 to 150 turns of heavy copper wire. This wire must be insulated so that the voltage does not jump from loop to loop, shorting it out. If this happened, it could not create the primary magnetic field that is required. The primary circuit wire goes into the coil through the positive terminal, loops around the primary windings, then exits through the negative terminal. The coil secondary winding circuit contains 15,000 to 30,000 turns of fine copper wire, which also must be insulated from each other. The secondary windings sit inside the loops of the primary windings. To further increase the coils magnetic field the windings are wrapped around a soft iron core. To withstand the heat of the current flow, the coil is filled with oil which helps keep it cool. The ignition coil is the heart of the ignition system. As current flows through the coil a strong magnetic field is built up. When the current is shut off, the collapse of this magnetic field to the secondary windings induces a high voltage which is released through the large center terminal. This voltage is then directed to the spark plugs through the distributor.

Okay it break down like this; 1, the ignition. coil. 2, trigger or ignition module, 3 spark plug wire, 4 spark plug. You dident ask how it works. Wanna Know? I'm kolher. The primary system is the the low voltage side, points, ignition module, primary side of ignition coil and ignition switch. The secondary windings of the coil, coil wire, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs are parts of the secondary system.
Not sure about your specific model, but the negative side goes to ground, the positive side goes to the wire that is hot when your key is turned to the on position. You can tell the positive side of the coil as it will have continuity between both the primary and secondary sides of the circuit. (The negative terminal being the primary and the coil wire going to the distibutor being the secondary.)
In a transformer, the primary coil is the coil that has voltage applied to it. The secondary coil is the coil that we take voltage from. Transformers are used to step up voltage, step down voltage, or simply to isolate circuits.
U can only check the primary side,not the secondary side. Had same problem, changed coil and it worked, but its a crap shoot. If u have problems check ur points first, this is a mojority of the problem!

H1 is a terminal designation on the primary side of a transformer. The counter part to this terminal is H2. These two terminals are the connection points for the primary coil of the transformer.
If this is a standard coil and not a coil pack the negative terminal is one of the two smaller ones on either side when looking at it from the top. The one marked with a minus sign ( - ) is the ground. On most German cars ( usually bosch brand coil ) the side with 1- marked on it is the ground and the one marked with 15+ is the primary positive.
