Portrait photographers have to be highly expressed extroverts. I find that statement incorrect. A photographer needs to be artistic, intellectual and thoughtful. You need a creative eye and an easy going personality. If you chose to work for yourself in this career you need business sense and a balanced budget.

The University of Florida offers a great course in photography called "creative photography". They try to teach a photographer to find their own path and develop their own personal style as well as teaching all of the skills needed to become a successful photographer.
