If they are not in place, the switch cannot be depressed and the lights stay on. Very easy to fix. Buy the parts and snap them into the two small holes. Check the brake switch under your pedal (which needs to be pushed when the brake pedal is depressed). This is what the problem was on my friends Sentra. As long as you have checked the lights and fuses, this should do it.

The brake light switch is located above the brake pedal on a 1993 Nissan Sentra. To reach the switch the driver's door needs to be opened.
I think I had a similar problem with my 1991 Sentra. When the headlights were on, one of my wouldn't work. There turned out to be a loose connection with one of the wires.
