This isn't entirely the case. Republicans make up a large segment of the population and as such there are different views within the party.

In general, Republicans aren't fiscally conservative, because they are willing to decrease taxes before they decrease spending, leaving the government with shortfalls or deficits, thus causing long term problems with the debt. Many are willing to provide corporate subsidies for different industries arguing that it will 'broaden the base' and be 'revenue neutral', when the reality is that these are overzealous estimates and they show lack of imagination as to how the finances will be adjusted to avoid these new taxes.

What is President Obama's source of opposition?

Barack Obama is a centrist Democrat. His main opposition comes from the other major political party, the Republicans. Some Republicans, who are fiscally conservative, oppose him because of his economic policies. Other Republicans, who are socially conservative, oppose him because of his support for marriage equality (gay marriage) and his belief that insurance plans should cover contraception for women. It should also be noted that Mr. Obama has some opposition in his own party, from progressive Democrats who believe he is too much of a centrist, and wish his policies were more liberal.
