If the vehicle has a stainless steel exhaust system it will last the life of the car. If it does not and you drive in roads treated with salt it will not last as long. Surface rust does not mean the exhaust in need of repair. Surface rust is normal on a steel exhaust system.

What is the best way to protect cars from car rust without using sprays?

Rust rot is just a term for rust on the body of your car. Usually you'll see paint bubbles, which indicate rust underneath. To get rid of it, Strip the paint off the car to reveal exactly where the rust resides. You have to strip all of it off. Sometimes other areas are affected where paint hasn't bubbled yet. Chances are, if you have one spot, you've got more. Once the body underneath is revealed, sand down the all the rust so it's completely gone. Remember that rust is like cancer. If you even leave a smidget of it on the car, you'll get the problem all over again. Make sure you get it ALL!!! To be certain, I recommend using a chemical like RustOleum's Rust Stripper. It chemically kills the rust and converts it to something totally different which is inactive. When all you have left is the unpainted body of the car, with no paint, you're done with the rust. The only thing left is to patch up all the holes with either epoxy, sheet metal, or putty (depending on your budget) and then repaint. To avoid getting infected again, try using Primers and Paint that resist rust as much as possible. Check out http://www.rustoleum.com for some tips and great items. I like them. They're cheap and they have a lot of great products. The other thing you can do is just bring it to a car painting shop like Maaco and have them do all the work. But, they won't love ur car like u do. If you have the time, I recommend doing the rust removal yourself. Then bring your car to Maaco to have them repaint it. Plus, you'll save about 500 bucks on the paint job for all you hard work. Painting a car is 90% labor, 10% material costs. Good Luck, Boris yakmanwz@yahoo.com

Should you put another engine in a 1989 Honda Accord LXi or just sell it as is or are there other options?

1) Is the body in good shape? (No rust, etc) 2) Do you like the car? 3) Has it been reliable? (It's a Honda, so it must have been) If yes, then replace the engine (but then I'm a car nut). If you don't want to put that much money into the car by rebuilding the motor, you can always get a motor from the junkyard.

What is the easiest way to remove rust from a gun barrel?

Depends on how heavy the rust is. Light surface rust comes right off with 0000 steel wool and a good gun oil. Heavier rust may need the attention of a gunsmith. sales@countrygunsmith.net <><><> Good answer above. Remember that bluing is a FORM of rust, so rust removing chemicals, such as Naval Jelly, will also strip bluing in a blink.

Why does a car exhaust rust quicker than the car body?

One reason why car exhausts rust faster than the car body of the car is because they are often at a different temperature. The exhaust can be very hot and very cold so this creates a reaction rate which inturn makes the exhaust rust faster. hope that helps :)

Can rust cause a car to age?

To answer this question precisely would necessitate me knowing what you mean by the word "age". If car A is 10 years old with no rust, but car B is 10 years old with rust, they are both 10 years old. The age of both cars is 10 years. Only time itself causes age. However, if you ask the question "Can rust cause my car to become no longer useful?" The answer to this is - yes. Rust eats away critical parts of the car so that it is no longer safe to use.

What soda coke ginger ale or sprite will rust a penny the fastest?

Coke will rust a penny the fastest due to its high acidity and sugar content. Ginger ale and Sprite have less acidity and sugar, so they would not rust a penny as quickly as Coke.

Should you undercoat a used car?

NO. Only new cars should be undercoated. Unless you feel like ripping apart the car cleaning all the rust off then you could, but it is too much work. The above answer is kind of stupid. The poster asked if a used car could or should be undercoated. If the car in question has rust peforation or is obviously rusted (and rust is easy to see and inspect for) then obviously the answer would be a solid "no". However, a used car that is CLEAN and well kept, has no rust issues, can be steam cleaned and undercoated. I have a 22 year old pickup truck that was purchased new in Hawaii, and soon thereafter called SE Arizona home until the past week or so. This truck has absolutely NO rust on it, and it can be cleaned and undercoated prior to it's first OH winter. SO the qualified answer is: If the vehicle is CLEAN, has been well maintained, or is from a rust-free environment, it can be undercoated.

Can cars with bad rust be repaired?

With a panelbeater who has enough skill, any rust can be repaired. It's an expensive and time consuming process to do it properly, so it becomes a question of whether it is worth it, in comparison to the car's value and rarity.

How is rust produced?

Rust is iron oxide. So when iron oxidizes you get rust. So iron and steel (iron and carbon) are prone to this happening while metal like aluminum well not rust.
