During World War II, Argentina was officially neutral- it wasn't on either side. There were a lot of German immigrants living there, and in the middle of the war, a right-wing military Dictatorship took over. The dictators were somewhat sympathetic to the Nazis, because both were right-wingers and because of the influence of the German immigrants.

So when the war ended in May 1945, many high-ranking Germans feared the repercussions of the war. The Allies were angry about the war and the Holocaust, especially as they liberated concentrated camps and discovered just how bad it was. The Nazis expected to be arrested, tortured, and executed for their crimes. They tried to flee to other countries to avoid these fates, and some, like Heinrich Himmler, committed suicide when they were unsuccessful.

Some of the ones who escaped their Allied pursuers were able to quietly hide in friendly Argentina. A few of the more notorious leaders, notably Adolf Eichmann, were later captured by agents of the Israeli government to be put on trial for crimes against humanity.
