Because the Articles of Confederation didn't give the government too much power. If you didn't know what an anti-federalist is, they are people at the constitutional convention who didn't want the federal government to have too much power.

The articles didn’t reflect anything about the Enlightenment. They were written to keep the states as individuals and not as a whole unit. This is why they didn’t work.
No because he supported a strong national government
The Articles of Confederation didn't enforce certain laws. The Articles couldn't regulate trade, force citizens to join the army, or impose taxes. If Congress needed money, they had to ask state legislatures who could deny.
Leaders around the time of the Articles of Confederation agreed that it was made to weak. It did not include powers such as the power to tax and the power to create a standing army. The main reason for wanting to change the Articles of Confederation was to create a document that would be strong enough to keep control of the country, but weak enough that the government would not turn into a monarchy or dictatorship.

James Madison wanted to replace the Articles of Confederation because he thought they would have a stronger national government. But Patrick Henry wanted to keep the Articles. :))
articles of confederation
The Articles of Confederation failed because the government had no way to collect taxes to keep itself running under it's legislature.
The articles didn’t reflect anything about the Enlightenment. They were written to keep the states as individuals and not as a whole unit. This is why they didn’t work.
The Articles' weakness was that they gave the federal government so little power that it couldn't keep the country united. The Articles were abandoned for the Constitution. The Articles of confederation did not give the federal government the power to taxThe Articles of confederation did not have an executive branch in other words no presidentThe Articles of Confederation did not have a judicial branch to resolve disputes and set policy. It was very difficult to pass laws under the Articles of Confederation 9/13 of the states had to agree and almost impossible to revise the Articles the need every state to agree in order to make a change.
