You ONLY lose brake pressure if you have a leak somewhere ! - This can be in any wheel cylinder , the master cylinder, or a fractured brake line. Till you find the leak, keep your master cylinder topped up daily.

If the brake fluid reservoir remains full and the brake pedal sinks to the floor as you are waiting at a stop light, the master cylinder is At Fault.

What is the name of the small rubber piece that is located under the brake pedal that turns off the tail lights?

The part of the car that turns on the brake lights when you apply pressure to the brake pedal is called the brake switch. Releasing pressure from the pedal causes the brake switch to break its electrical contact, turning off the lights.

What valves are anti-compounding valves?

Anti compounding valves are found in an air brake system on large commercial vehicles. These valves help to balance the pressure applied to the slack adjuster by simultaneously applying air to the spring brake relay when the service brake is pushed. The air is applied to the parking brake chamber as air pressure is applied to the service brake chamber thus releasing the parking brake the same amount that the service brake is applied thus "Balancing" the pressure in the brake chamber. This prevents excessive pressure from being applied to the service side and subsequently to the rod and slack adjuster. Thomas Moysey- owner A.B. CDL Training Center Waterford, CT

What function does the wheel cylinder perform in the brake system?

The wheel cylinder (used in drum brake applications) applies pressure delivered from the master cylinder via brake fluidto the brake shoes to pushagainst the brake drum to stop rotation.

What can cause soft brakes ruling out master cylinder 2003 Honda odessey?

Generally speaking, soft or spongy brakes can be caused by - Wheel bearings that are out of adjustment Brake shoes that are out of adjustment Brand new brake linings that haven't 'bedded-in' yet Air in the braking system Other causes can be - Brake components not secured properly Worn or damaged self adjusting mechanisms Wrong brake components fitted Wet or damp brake linings Seized or partially seized brake components - wheel cylinders or caliper pistons Expanding brake hoses Brake system component seals leaking or not holding pressure and lastly................. Contaminated brake fluid or the wrong type of brake fluid ---------------------------------------------------------- Okay, that's quite a list, so lets get down to it........ Chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Release the parking or hand brake. Clamp off all the flexible brake hoses and test the pedal pressure. If the pedal pressure is poor the problem lies with the master cylinder. If the pressure is good then release one of the clamps you placed on the brake pipes and check the pedal pressure again. Carry on until you release a clamp and the pedal pressure becomes poor - this will indicate the area on the vehicle where the problem lies. Refer to the list above to guide you to finding the solution to your problem.

Why would ford ranger brake calipers not release?

Either the caliper piston is frozen stuck or the hydraulic brake hose has collapsed internally. Open the bleeder on that caliper and see if the pressure releases, if it does you have a bad brake hose.

Why does the car lose brake pressure when the car turns on?

Your car could be losing brake pressure because you have a bad ABS control module. It also could be a bad brake booster.

What would make your brake light to come on and your truck to lose power briefly?

applying pressure to the brake pedal

Why won't your car move or your brakes lose pressure after adding brake fluid?

A brake line may be broken missing or loose.

When applying pressure to brakes lightly brakes lose compression Why?

faulty master brake system

Why when the car is off you have good brake pressure amd when you turn car on you lose it and cant get it back?

You could have a leak in your power brake system.

If a parking brake valve holds pressure on an aircraft brake line when the aircraft is shutdown is it feasible to have that pressure reduce if the temperature change outside is significant?

Yes, but the brake line won't lose enough pressure to permit the aircraft to roll unless it has been sitting for some time.

Your breaks lose pressure when pressed what is wrong?

There are a lot of different things that could be wrong. But initially what it means is that your brakes are going out or are out You should start by checking your brake fluid if that is low it would cause you to loose pressure. If your brake fluid is low and you fill it things should get better if you don't have a hole in your brake line. If the fluid is full check your brake pads

Why do I lose brake pressure on my landrover discovery when I am coming down from altitude 13000ft then they come back if I let it sit for 20 min?

Im not sure what you mean by brake pressure. But if you're comming down from a hill and you are constantly braking the discs overheat and you get lower brake preformance. If this is what you mean. try descending with while in gear and use the brake less. Otherwise It could be your braking fluid is too old and you need to replace it. Over time it takes on moisture and doesn't perform that good. Harrie Thanks Harrie but no, this one is really weird. I totally lose pedal pressure without even using the brakes (eliminating "brake fade") & the fluid is fairly new. It's something to do with pressure change but removing the reservoir cap to equalise the pressure (a theory) doen't even help

What is abs brake pressure modulation?

The pumping and releasing of brakes by the unit is brake pressure modulation

What makes a back tire lock?

Excessive brake pressure, or brake pressure imbalance Front/Rear.

What are the 2 prong switches on the 1974 vw super beetle master brake cylinder?

That is a pressure controlled brake light switch, when you step on the brake pedal and develop pressure in the brake fluid the brake lights are switched on.

How do brake piston retract?

Brake pistons are actuated by either fluid or air pressure. As you depress the brake pedal, the increase in pressure in the brake line expands the flexible end of the brake line, located in the brake caliper. As the pressure increases, it forces the brake piston to move within the caliper, putting pressure on the brake disk, and slowing its rotation, slowing the vehicle. As the brake pedal is released, it creates a vacuum in the system that causes the piston to relax and free the disk to spin again,
