Defective ignition switch or tumbler assembly.
I have heard this problem related to my sons 2000 Monte Carlo. I'm about to change his ignition switch. I tried the resistor, tested the fan, even changed out the whole climate control unit!
AnswerCould be a bad ignition switch. or Timing is off. This is known as dieseling. The car runs off combustion and burned gases still in the cylinder even if the ignition is off. Make sure marks are lined up on the camshafts and crankshaft. mostly likely have to remove the valve cover to check timing. Even though its a chain timing can still skip a mark. Another thing to do is make sure the piston is on top dead center and the dist. is firing on the number 1 cylinder.also try Removing the spark plug on number 1 and have someone turn it over as you watch for a spark.
Will it even crank? If it won't, you have an ignition switch or lock cylinder going bad. If it does crank, just not running, then check to make sure fuel pressure is good and that the ignition coil is good. When exactly will it not start?
replace ignition switch
first i would check your coil, if its good, check your ignition switch.
you need to check your fuses first ( sounds like it) they are on underdash (drivers side)
Will it even attempt to engage the starter?. If not then the battery or charging system needs to be looked at.
my 97 ford probe GT does not start sorry for the mistakes
I found mine in the backseat passenger panel. I found out I even had keyless entry....
Ignition lock. Check probetalk.com forum for more info my 93 automatic does that occasionally. all i have to do is shift into neutral(auto tranny) and then it starts fine. it is just an ignition lock safety system. no problem nothin to worry about
Try an ignition switch.
I recently bought a 94' GT...which at the beginning would run but would not idle...and when we did some work on it and got it somewhat stay running...we drove it and it misfired. We were looking for a cheap fix because at the time we hadn't bought it yet. So we changed the spark plugs...but that wasnt the problem. So the next step we changed the Ignition wires and it purred like a kitten. the problem was that the wires had never been changed since the car was manufactured and were getting worn out.
If you mean it ( diesel's ) then eventually shuts off, then this is due to low grade fuel as to where the timing is set on the engine. Two options, change to higher grade fuel, or have timing checked or lowered. In either case, this is not good for the engine.
Make sure your mass air flow electrical connection is connected tight.
Fuel tank sending unit. Fuse.
my 1993 probe gt done the same thing with the no spark at the plugs the ignition module was bad i replace the whole distributor and it runs great
A2. The fwd center hole is smaller even though the bold pattern is the same. A1. Most likely no considering fwd uses high offset rims....whereas rwd is the opposite
