Some slight crazing, or spider-web cracks, may appear in stressed areas of new plaster, as at corners. Anything larger is suggestive of trouble, wither the structure is shifting or the plaster was incorrectly applied.

Manual application of true plaster is not common these days. Plaster board (or sheet rock) may develop thin "cracks" in the filler used to bridge over the edges of the boards. Larger cracks, or located in the middle of the sheets, is suggestive of settling or installation problems.
