Heartbeat is regulated according to the energy requirements of the body. When you are standing still, you do not expend as much energy as you do when you are running or walking, so your heart rate would be slower. When you are supine/prone during sleeping, your heart rate falls further because your metabolic processes also slow down.
The "normal" heart rate for an adult at rest is 60 to 100 beats per minute. People who excercise regularly and are in good physical condition may have heart rates into the 50's and are still considered normal.
90 beats per minute is still healthy... If you are constantly below 60 call your doctor or if it is above 100 take a rest. But 80 to 90 beats is good!
standing still
well first you have to define old. next what has he done his whole life like his job and was he active as a kid and is he still active now. lastly what was he last doing was he running or sitting still
Your heart is still a muscle, and thus forth needs to rest in between beats. Rest.
It beats faster than if you are standing still, but slower than your heartbeat when you are running.
not really because the more still you are the slower you heart will beat because you aren't using as much energy. yes the more still the slower the heart rate but if you are running your heart rate will increase. Also your heart beats 70 times a minute, depending on your age, infact most children age 10+ hearts beat as muh as that!

Solemn
The Heart as a whole does not rest between beats. It is a portion that relaxes when the other chambers still functions and vice versa.
yes but my question was why?
If you are walking or standing still you are going slower than running, if you speed up then you are accelerating.
