There could be many reasons as to why it will crank and not start. The car may have a failing starter, a leaky gas pump may cause the car to cut off while driving.
Starter motor, Flat battery or bad earth cables are the prime suspects
Dead battery, Alternator not charging, Ignition off draw draining battery,.............
you need to disconnect the two wire spout connector shorting bar located between the battery and data link connector

what can make car sometimes have trouble starting then sometimes start right up and then sometimes drive good down the road and sometimes cut out please help
The most common cause for a car to lose power and then cut out is a bad fuel pump. The fuel pump will steadily get worse and eventually the car will not start.
Because the car needs all the power it can get to start so you heater and maybe radio cut out for a few seconds.
it could be a fuel filter maybe the one in your car is old and you need a new one
serviced my car today and started fine took it for a drive today then cut out like ran out off fuel but had fuel in took a while to start and then drove a little bit and cut out got it starting again but running lumpy what could be the problem

Most likely it is an electrical problem, unless you have a cut fuel line.
fuel and air mixture is increased and exploding fuel is much larger effect. On older cars, if you double tapped the throttled it would engage the choke which cut air down for cold starting.
may be an old starter motor, get a decent weight tool, and gently hit the starter motor, then start the car again.
