NEED MORE INFO. Have you tried relieving the pressure on the ignition switch by turning the steering wheel slightly to relieve the pressure against the lock mechanism? Did it used to work but doesn't work now? Are you using the same key as before? If using a different key, is this one equipped with the security chip (located in the fat plastic part of the key)? If not, the car's security system is working and has disabled the ignition just like it's supposed to.
More than likely because of a short. its probably a shorted ignition switch
Have you tried wiggling the steering column while turning the key? If that helps, you probably need to remove a portion of the plastic cover from your steering column to enable you to lube the column lock. That's the thing that keeps the steering from turning if the key is not turned on. If the column lock jams, it can prevent the key from turning.
Try jiggling the steering wheel while turning the key. Sometimes if the wheels are slights turned when you shut it off the steering wheel is pressed against the ignition switch inside the column. If that doesn't do it you probably will need a new key.
Sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck. Another possibility is the ignition key switch is not automatically returning from the start to run position. As the switches get older they seem to get stiff. Could be a weak spring in the switch or just gummed up lubricant. The easy test is to try turning the key counter clockwise after starting the engine and see if the starter motor stops running.
Probably not a bad ignition switch, but more likely a bad starter solenoid. It takes a lot of current to get a starter to turn, to much to go through such a small switch like the ignition switch. The ignition switch actually controls a relay(solenoid) which can handle the needed current to get the starter going. On a lot of modern cars the solenoid is built into the starter unlike older cars and trucks where it was mounted on the firewall between the battery and the starter.
Key "wont", lol.... try turning the stirring wheel as u turn the key, good luck
If there's a red blinking light on the dash by the Hazard switch, yes.
the switch is probably stuck. try spraying silicone in key slot insert key and gently tap key with rubber hammer than try turning it.
That is for turning the passenger airbag off, for placing a child seat...
Program a new key and ignition to a 2000 ford focus
It tells you in the repair manual and you need to have the original key.
there may be a button next to the ignition switch. Try pressing it while turning the key.
I had this problem in my 2004 focus. You have to get a dealership to replace the ignition switch altogether.
How is the ignition key switch replaced on the 2000 Pontiac Sunfire? And after replacing the switch would I have to have it Towed to the Pontiac Dealer in order to have the car key programed to the Computer?
No
You simply need to turn your steering wheel either way to get the ignition switch to unlock. Turn the key while you are turning the steering wheel and it will unlock it.
... Turn the key and pull towards the passenger side.
