Like Charles Lindbergh, she was seen as an Aviation Pioneer.
Amelia's nickname as a child was "Meely". Because her sister couldn't pronounce her name correctly.
Her name was not Linda. Lady Lindy was a pun on Charles Lindbergh- the aviator of Spirit of St. Louis fame. She was a lady- and a famous pilot- so the two terms were coupled. No direct connection with the Lindy Hop - a type of dance. (but that was also named in(honor) of the airman!
Amelia was named Amelia Mary Earhart after her two grandmothers, Amelia Harres Otis and Mary Wells Earhart -- a family tradition. It should also be noted that questioners who spell her last name wrong think it was "Airhart," and that her name had some relationship to her occupation as an aviator. It did not.
As a girl, she was known as the girl in brown shoes who walks alone, and she did not make friends easily. As an adult, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was counted among Amelia's friends.

Lady Lindy
Amelia's nickname as a child was "Meely". Because her sister couldn't pronounce her name correctly.
She got the nickname Lady Lindy because some people thought she looked like Charles Lindbergh.
Her sister called her 'Millie' but, because of her looks and accomplishments, some people called her 'Lady Lindy' after Charles Lindbergh
The title fits, but was not popular. Lady Lindy and of course, Amy, which is a standard nickname for Amelia, were used. it is probable, as with Anastasia, there were less laudatory cognomens.
Amelia Earhart went by Lady Lindy, and Meeley.
I have read a number of books on Amelia Earhart, including some ( Fringe) ones and have never heard of this mascot. Maybe you are thinking of some other Aviatrix, maybe Anne Morrow Lindbergh ( in part due to the Lady Lindy nickname- many people have erroneously assumed that Amelia was married to Charles Lindbergh which is totally out of the picture!)
Amelia Earhart's best friend was Eleanor Roosevelt, a former first lady of the United States of America.
She was known for being the first woman to fly over the Altintic by herself. She set many flying records. Her nickname was 'Lady Lindy'.
One assumes you mean the media term Lady Lindy- it is easy to explain (Lindy) honored (? as the term was even extended to a popular dance) the aviator Charles Lindbergh who made the epoch-making New York to Paris Flight in l927 ( Spirit of St.Louis NX-2ll) There are some who still claim the flight was a fictated Newspaper stunt. As Amelia Earhart was, after all the first Aviatrix to fly the Atlantic the nickname Lady Lindy seems downright obvious. she may have had other nicknames like the (Flat Top) or ( Flatsy) which were derisive about her physical construct. of course flat top is an acceptable term for an Aircraft Carrier -USN usage. but something else is implied- she was (Flat on top). quite the opposite of, say Jayne Mansfield who was nicknamed the (Cow). for obvious reasons, either feast or famine on the top line.
Lady Amelia Spencer was born on 1992-07-10.
