You need steady hands and nice angles to be a photographer.
If you are starting your own small photography business you shouldn't need to be bonded. When you get larger (if you get large enough) you may wish to consider some sort of professional liability insurance, but I've never known of a professional photographer to be bonded or have such insurance. Good luck.

In order to be a photographer, you don't really need any qualifications. All you really need to know is the concepts of photography and exactly what you are doing. Also its good to have an understanding in what you are photographing, for example how skateboarders do what they do. You'll need good people skills if portraiture is what you want to get into. You can get qualifications in photography but in my opinion, all you really need is the passion, and a good portfolio..
I am a professional photographer and have been for 9 years. You do not need a degree. You can take a photography class at any local university and get a certification. Your work is what clients will look at and you will have to have a basic knowledge of technical skills such as: aperture, shutter, lenses, lighting, and all the other how to's. Your composition is something you can practice. You can also buy some books and save yourself a lot of money by learning these things on your own.

Portrait photography is a profession and certainly does require training. There are many paths to becoming a portrait photographer. Perhaps the most typical path is to go to university for a four year undergraduate degree in photography. Then, get a job as an assistant photographer with an established professional portrait photographer. After working for a period of one to five years, you will understand a great deal about the business and will have honed your skills enough to decide if you want to operate independently.
