Joseph Q. Whipple was an artist and sculptor who specialized in wildlife creations which combined a painted plaster half section of the body mounted on the backdrop which was then painted along with the object. Whipple Avenue was named after his family. Joseph enjoyed painting along side nearby Leesville Lake in Carroll County in between fishing excursions in hi beloved canoe. He sold his work through local shops in Canton and to Abercrombie & Fitch in New York. He was a man of integrity, had a pleasant personality and was liked by all who knew him.
