I would suggest you work with one of the many neutrals available. White, black, grey (or a combination of the colours) are all viable options and leave you able to use any other colour if and when you repaint. If your room has wood in it, you could also use any of the beige, brown and "stone" colours.

There are currently glass tiles available from many companies that feature "metallic" looks, check into these. You can find one with a pewter look that is in combination with translucent and opaque tiles in greys. The finished look will be very sharp with the red, and still leave you options for the future.

How did people paint in caves?

Cavemen used to get juice from fruits and other plants. They used the juice like paint, and just painted on the walls. Coloured rocks and minerals were also used, such a haematite and calcite. The paintings themselves were probably done using hands and fingers or sticks. Some of the most amazing finds of art in caves are the outlines of hands, where the artist held paint in their mouth, placed their hand on the wall of the cave and blew the paint over their hand leaving the outline of their hand on the wall. All this was done by the light of small lamps.

What phrase describes the term fresco?

Fresco refers to a technique of mural painting on freshly laid wet plaster, allowing the pigments to bond with the wall as it dries. This method results in vibrant colors and durability, as the paint becomes an integral part of the wall surface. The term is derived from the Italian word "fresco," meaning "fresh." It is commonly associated with Renaissance art, exemplified by works such as Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling.
