In the 1900s, a cantor's seat or chair was often an ornate and elevated piece of furniture, reflecting the importance of the cantor in religious services. Typically made of wood, it featured intricate carvings, often with religious motifs, and was designed for both comfort and prominence within the sanctuary. The seat was usually positioned near the altar or pulpit, allowing the cantor to lead the congregation in song and prayer effectively. Its design often mirrored the architectural style of the synagogue or church, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the worship space.
