Still life and engraved woodcuts became prominent during the Northern Renaissance, particularly in the 15th and 16th centuries. This artistic movement emphasized detailed realism and the depiction of everyday objects, often incorporating symbolic meanings. Artists like Albrecht Dürer were pivotal in popularizing engraved woodcuts, which allowed for mass reproduction and greater accessibility to art. The movement reflected a growing interest in human experience and the material world.

Some prints were made from engraved templates centuries ago, and this method is still used for stamps, but nor for prints anymore.
Westwood took many influences from historic periods for example the Victorians. as for her punk range, she has been known to have the title, along with Malcolm Mclaren for starting the punk revolution. McLaren was the manager of the Sex Pistols. When Westwood's punk clothing became mainstream and in demand she moved on, so the punk movement could still remain with some element of DIY.
