Latin America has a rich artistic culture. One art form the area is well known for is dance. The mamba, the merengue, and the tango are all well known Latin dances. There are also specific music types developed to go with these dances. Like most countries, the development of the internet, travel, and mass media has caused art of Latin American countries to have many more influences, but traditional art was heavily influenced by religion and the native population. Painting, especially murals, are popular in Latin America, as well as sculptures.

Like Alica below me says "think of artists today like Shakira, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias," and Santana! These artists have been on the top 100 lists multiple times. How can that not be direct proof for influence?

Artist, Ana Julia Alavarez studied at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in the 1930s, was born in El Salvador in 1908. In 1946 she married the American pilot and metal artist William (Bill) Bovard, the grandson and grand nephew of the founders of USC. In the early 1950s she exhibited at the Smithsonian with other Latin American artists as part of a Latin American exhibition. She became an American citizen who later moved to Toronto, Canada in the 1980s. Though she continued to paint throughout her life, she began to sculpt in the 1960s and it became her primary mode of creative expression. She died in Toronto on September 27th, 2007, five months shy of her 100th birthday.
