i just removed tacky glue from an art canvas that i was working on so this might help with a canvas awning or any other type of canvas material. stretch the fabric over a flat surface so you have something hard to work against. then, wet the fabric using a spray bottle--maybe three or four sprays on a small work area. after the spot is sufficiently wet, take the end of a letter opener or butter knife or other blunt tool edge and scrape the glue away in an upward direction. this worked wonders and i tried so many other things before this. i also tried a utility knife, rubbing alcohol, and fingernail but found that the letter opener with water worked the best.
