This is kind of neat:
The fiero comes with a second cable already installed. Remove the hood release handle and there should be a cable end hanging there. Pull and release the hood. The replacment proceedure is undo damaged cable from hood latch, tape the new to old, follow the camle to the bulkhead and release all the hold down clips and gromits, use the old to fish the new through the car, re-conect.
The fiero front hood release cable has an extra cable tucked inside the release lever housing. If they're both broke then you'll have to use a crowbar and lightly pry up on the hood but be extremely carefull not to break the fiberglass hood. Take a long flat tipped screw driver and remove the foam padding around the latch then take a 10mm stubby wrench and remove the 2 bolts holding the latch to the car then just raise the hood and trip the latch. Remove the old cable and install a new one.
Junk vehicle.
The hood release cable.
Hood release cable has connector nuts on both ends of the cable. Loosen the connector nuts. Remove the cable retainers. The cable will come off and can be replaced with a new hood release cable.
The hood release handle is connected to a cable. The cable runs to the front of the hood and connects to a catch. When the cable is pulled the catch releases the hood.
The hood release cable is held in place by a retaining nut on each end of the cable. Remove the retaining nuts and the cable placement retainers. Reverse the process to install the new hood release cable.
The front hood release leaver is under the dash near the door. the tail hood release is a grey button on the right side of the gauge cluster.
IF YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY YOU CAN SEE THE THE CABLE TAPE THE OLD TO THE NEW END AND PULL IT THROUGH
It depends on what is wrong with the cable. When you pull the hood release within the car, is the latch not popping? If you can get the hood up at all, then you should look at the actual latch system where the cable runs, there is a metal clip that holds the cable to the latch. Have another person pull the interior latch release and watch the cable.

cable broke release latch for the hood can't open it
Try using a coat hanger with the ends cut off and bend it into shape to get under the hood and pull the cable release.
