I bought the tool from a Mercedes dealership. it looks like 2 knitting needles with handles and hooks at the ends. First extend the steering wheel telescopic to full out position; then lower the steering column to allow clearance for the cluster to slide out. The hooks go into 2 little holes on the 2 upper corners of the speedo cluster. First keep the hook pointing up and slide it in as far as the mark on the tool shaft; then turn left or right accordingly towards the speedo cluster to feel some grip. Gently apply pressure from side to side and slide the speedometer cluster out. Be careful. It's then quite easy to change a bulb.
Is your speedometer not working? If your abs light or tracs light is on it may be the brake control module causing your speedo not to work.
The speedo itself or the wiring to the speedo can be bad. The Speedo and all the dash light flickers. Trans. slip, but when i unplug the speed sensor the trans work ok. I change trans. 2 times, speed sensor, alternator, battery. The problem not gone. I need help
The lighting on the speedometer cluster is built into the cluster itself. If you want to change the color, good luck. You have to sand off the green coating and be careful not to sand too much off or you'll get the black backing of the speedo. Once the green coating is off, then you will have white lights, until you change the color of them.
you have either a bad speed sensor (check engine light on?) or a short in the printed panel and amp/ voltage reg. on the back of the speedo head. no check engine light on replace/ rebuild speedo head there are speedo shops. if light is on replace speed sensor as the OBD system uses this sensor to. clear codes and happy driving Johnie
There is no speedo cable on a 96, GM quit using them in 1987. You have a speed sensor, which is located on the top rear of the transmission. It will have a couple wires coming off it in a plug, that run thru the computer, then to the speedo. If your speedo has quit working, has it also set a check engine light? If so, I would recomend replacing the speedo sensor.
Bad speedo cable, Try some light oild like WD40 and if the problems goes away than replace the cable
microscope light illuminates the specimen so that you can see it
Something in the speedo circuit has possibly failed and the computer set a code for it.. Have it checked for codes.
I once had the same problem in my 89 Sunbird turbo. The computer "ECM" went bad and the speedo stopped working. I would see what ECM codes you have causing the check engine light and go from there.
The light and the speedo are probably the same problem. The VSS vehicle speed sensor is located at the back of the transmission by the right drive axle Check if the connector is secure If ok replace the sensor.
you have to remove the lens cover. look for screws to take it off. then the speedometer pulls out and the bulbs are behind.
a light
