There are 2 pipe plugs in the back side of the transfer case....one in the upper portion and one in the bottom. First remove the bottom plug to drain old oil. Remove top plug too assist drainage of oil. After old oil is drained reinstall bottom plug. New oil must be installed through top plug opening. It should hold slightly more than 1 qt. of oil. Fill until oil starts to come out of the top opening. Install plug into top opening.
The first step should actually be - remove the top/fill plug because if you remove the drain plug first and then cannot remove the fill plug... you are stuck with an empty T-case and no way to fill it. You might need to drive to get a tool or go to the shop to get the plug loosened for you.
