Take it to the vet
If the dog's leg is actually broken, then there should be a cast on the leg instead of a splint. A broken bone on a dog can take as long to heal as a broken bone on a person, which is approximately six weeks. If you believe you dog's leg is broken, but haven't yet taken the dog to the vet, please do so immediately; a splint is simply not adequate to help the bone mend. If your dog already has a splint, then wait for the vet to remove it.

Use a rigid material like a board or splint to immobilize the leg. 4. Secure the splint with bandages or tape. 5. Check for proper circulation and seek medical help.

Well, from my knowledge, they had a tool called a Leg Splint. It was a wooden thing that would attach to your leg. If you were in need of a leg splint, some would just chop off a tree branch and use that. Many infections and such things as the Leg Splint were what caused disease and other infections. I'm glad we have good medical services and ways to help our legs and NOT use Leg Splints.
You would call that a splint.
A splint is used to immobilize and support a leg fracture by holding the broken bone in place. This helps reduce pain, prevent further injury, and promote proper healing.
To apply a splint for a broken ankle, first gently straighten the injured leg. Place padding around the ankle and foot for comfort. Use a rigid material like a board or splint to support the ankle and leg. Secure the splint in place with bandages, making sure it is snug but not too tight. Seek medical help as soon as possible.
A broken leg in a guinea pig may not heal properly without a splint or some form of stabilization. It is recommended to consult a veterinarian for proper treatment to ensure the leg heals correctly and the guinea pig can recover fully.
