Well first you must build a trust with the foal, other wise you dont stand a chance, you will just be bronked off. This can be done by grooming, talking to the mare, giving treats, going for walks etc etc. Once this is done, try going in the paddock with her, let her follow you and you know a bond has been achieved. Also, when on walks, if she misbehaves, a pressure point headcollar is a fantastic investment!! Also, another way to know a bond has been achieved is by when shouted, she comes to you in the field. This is quiet difficult to be achieved, and should be done at a younger age, but if achieved, gives brilliant results.
