You would need someone to look under the vehicle at the drive shaft while you try to move.
If the drive shaft spins, but you don't move, its the rear end. No spinning drive shaft, then you have no clutch.
please specify your problem.
want to know what rear end it has for a replacement
Take it to a mechanic that's experienced in the rear end that you are needing the repair.
buy a used rear end from a junk yard. should cost aroun $200 to $400 dollars. If it went out in 2300 miles, either it was repaired improperly or the driver is tearing it up.
go to a doctor
I had that problem, not really a fishtail but the rear end seem to be really loose. The problem went away after replace the rear struts.
You can look on the rear axle carrier housing at the metal tag to know what type of rear end is in a 2004 Ram 1500, two-wheel drive.
Someone has to pick up the rear end and run with it, starting your engine when he drops it. (and if you spin out and stall you lose the race )
You will need to remove the plate that's on the back of the rear end housing and look inside at the gears to know for sure.
Tire out of balance, wrapped wheel, lug nuts loose, wheel improperly installed. If you had this condition before installing the new tires, I would look at a bent wheel or bent drive shaft. It can also be a bad universal joint. If all else fails, I know the ford Explorers, I think about 94 - 2005, had a rear clutch problem in the rear end gears. I had this problem in my friends 95 explorer, and my brother in his 2002 explorer the rear end needs a special friction modifier, and sometimes the clutch plates need to be replaced and the modifier added!!. the cost about $700.00 to $1,000.00. How to tell is, when starting out the back end seems to shutter or jump/ like its skipping. and really when you make turns!! I don't know if this applies to rangers, or if someone put a different rear end in.
