I have found the best, but unfortunately slow way to remove the smell is to pour a layer of (unused) cat litter into the case and close it up for about a week, then empty the litter out and place the case in bright sunshine for an afternoon. This works well and does not offer the chance of damaging the guitar case. If there is a bit of residual smell, keep a dryer sheet in the case for a while.
