If you are speaking of the inner c.v. joint for one of the front axles there is an internal snap ring that has to bee removed to get this joint out,just slide the c.v. boot back and look at the inner edge of what the joint slides in to and you can see it.

purchase vw tool for removing special bolts the hold inner joint to flange, jack up car, remove wheel, unbolt lower ball joint, remove tie rod nut, separate tie rod from steering knuckle, remove axle nut, pry lower control arm down and pry steering knuckle away from car, unbolt inner joint from flange and remove axle, be careful not to damage abs sensor wire,
There is an inner joint roll pin holding the CV joint onto the shaft of the gearbox. You will need to use a arallel pin punch of suitable diamiter to knock out the driveshaft roll pins at the transmition end. Note there are Two roll pins one inside the other.

Remove wheel and brake caliper, remove caliper frame and ABS cable.Separate tie rod end and ball joint from steering knuckle. Remove hub nut and pull knuckle away from outer cv joint. Insert a thin pry bar between cv inner and transaxle case and jerk it to loosen cv joint. Re-install in reverse order.
it as simple as pulling back the cv boot and hammering the joint off. there is a retaining ring on the inside of the joint. when you put it back together just make sure the ring is in good shape.
Jack and secure vehicle. Remove tie rod nut and separate of knuckle. Remove axle nut and strut bolts. Use pry bar to remove inner CV joint from trans. Pull CV axle from vehicle.
