It depends on whether you're dealing with one of the curved Peterson System pipes or one of the other models. It it's really stuck, you can try dripping a little mineral oil around where the stem enters the shank and then apply regular, gentle pressure in a rocking motion. It mat also help to refrigerate the pipe for a while before you try this. Good luck!

Turn off water. Bleed lines from the lowest faucet on the pipe run. take off cap over the knob. remove screw. remove cap. value stem should be exposed. Use appx. 5/8th wrench to loosen stem. Hold copper pipe as to not break while loosening. Once broken free should be able to remove the rest of the way by hand. re attach in reverse order. Turn water back on.
