CKP=Crankshaft Position. CMP=Camshaft Position.
Volkswagens are reliable vehicles. The most famous Volkswagen is the Beetle Bug which was popular in the 70s and made a return in the 2000s.

A CKP is the crankshaft position sensor. The engine computer uses that sensor to know the position of the crankshaft for fuel and ignition timing purposes. With out the ckp the engine will not run.

No, most were liquid cooled. The (original) Beetle and possibly the Type 2 (not sure on the latter) were the air-cooled Volkswagens.
The crank position sensor (ckp) is located at the back of the motor,driver's side, mounted to the transaxle housing. It gets it's single from the flywheel teeth. First unplug it and then remove the retaining bolt and pull it up and out. Reverse precedure to install.
