Check this Web site for details on replacing a Crankshift Position Sensor or CKP: http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/CrankshaftPositionCKPSensorRemoval.htm
Crankshaft position sensor.
CMP= Cam Shaft Position Sensor.
A CKP is the crankshaft position sensor. The engine computer uses that sensor to know the position of the crankshaft for fuel and ignition timing purposes. With out the ckp the engine will not run.
The Crankshaft Position sensor is located inside your distributor. They do not sell this piece separate from the distributor. It is possible to go to a pick-a-part and remove the distributor housing that contains a CYP, CKP, and TDC sensor and replace yours with this one. Just make sure to put a warranty on it if possible.
The CKP looks like a small gear with long teeth located inside the distributor housing. If the CKP fails, unfortunately you must replace the entire distributor housing.
