The most reliable way is to have it authenticated by a grading and authentication service.

This may be unnecessary though if it is obvious the coin is a modern reproduction. If it is a 1780 Thaler you can certain it is a reproduction as the originals are highly coveted due rarity and the Austrian mint made a large number of reproductions for sale as souvenirs at it's gift shop not to long ago.

Aside from the year, an original coin will have a patina from it's age as well as an accumulation of handling marks. Also older coins are not as "perfect" as modern coins and an original will display minting flaws not found on modern coins.
