1. Click on the 'American' flag on the top of the screen. It should be next to the sound settings.

2. Then click the tab that says 'Open International.'

3. Your system preferences will come up.

4. Go to the 'Input Menu' tab.

5. Check the 'Character Palette.'

6. Different languages will come up.

7. Find the simplified chinese section and check it. (make sure to check ITABC, Wubi Xing, and Wubi Hua).

8. Check 'Show input menu in menu bar.'

9. Then close the system preferences window and now you can type Chinese!
