Man, that has been an issue here too! I have replaced fuel pumps in almost every GM I have owned in the past decade.
They sometimes have had complete failure. They were running fine, then nothing.
I have had the car run ok at idle and terrible when starting off down the road.
I currently have one that starts real hard because the system loses prime. Once started it is fine.
Put a pressure meter on the rail. It should read about 50 PSI and never vary. I think I am sticking with another brand from now on. They have got thousands from me in fuel pumps. I have never replaced a Ford fuel pump.
I can tell you the fuel pump is in the gas tank.
It is in the fuse panel under the hood on the feft front wheel well. Look under the cover and in will tell you what number it is. more then likely you are going to need a fuel pump.
how do you tell if your fuel pump is working
It uses the one designed for the vehicle. Any Auto Parts store can tell you which one it uses.
You can tell if your fuel pump shutoff switch is bad, if the fuel pump does not shut off when you flip the switch. You can also tell if the switch is bad by looking at the wire connections.
You can tell the fuel pump is going bad when you hit the gas and it takes a second for the power to kick in. Also when your gas starts to go a little quicker than usual.
Ussualy if you turn the key to the on possitionyou can hear the fuel pump priming put your ear to gas tank fill up hole on have somebody turn the key
You will have to remove the fuel pump relay or the fuse for the fuel pump. You did not say what year it was, so I can't tell you where it is. SORRY.
well if you have fuel and a new filter a good fuel pump relay and the wires going to the fuel pump have power and no fuel pressure you need a fuel pump
A fuel pressure test done at the fuel rail will verify the condition of the fuel pump. Before going to that much trouble check the fuse, and fuel pump relay. If either one is defective the fuel pump will not function.
Have the fuel pressure checked. If the pump is noisy it is failing. do not forget to replace the fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter will appear as low fuel pressure, and overwork the pump.
A fuel pressure test can determine if the pump is working properly or not.
