You can tell if your fuel pump shutoff switch is bad, if the fuel pump does not shut off when you flip the switch. You can also tell if the switch is bad by looking at the wire connections.
I can tell you the fuel pump is in the gas tank.
Chrysler's do not have inertia/ shutoff switches.
How Can You Tell If The Fuel Pump Relay Switch Is Bad? Have a mechanic do a fuel pressure check this will tell you if the pump is working properly or on most vehicles you should be able to hear the pump kick on. You can also have the wiring checked to see if the pump is getting power...
There should be a warning light in your dash , something like FUEL RESET Also , the button on the top of your fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) will have popped up
NO...but there is a fuel tank pressure switch that tell your fuel pump when it has the proper pressure to turn the pump off once pressure is achieved.
You find the fuel pump inertia switch and if it is tripped and needs resetting then it was activated.
Need to know what year S10 you have to tell you where the fuel pump relay is.
how do you tell if your fuel pump is working
Swap it with another like relay.
iIf it is a electric fuel pump you cam easly tell if it is bad by simply turning the key to the on possion carefull not to engage the starter. lissen for the pump to run for 3 sec do this three or four times if you cannot here the pump trying to prime then it is bad.AnswerIf the pump is electric and i am sure it is turn the key to the on possion, careful not to enguage the starter. listen for the pump to prime {about 3 or 5 sec} if you do not here the pump then it is bad.========================================================Start with the basics :Has the fuel pump inertia switch ( shut off switch ) " tripped "Have you checked the fuse for the fuel pumpWhat about the fuel pump relay
Check the inertia ( fuel shutoff) switch inside the cab. Also, make sure the fuel pump relay is working and not fried. One sure fire way to tell if its the pump or not, have someone listen to the tank when the ignition is turned on; they should hear it..... or...take the fuel line off at the back of the filter and turn your ignition key on. You should get a good squirt of fuel at that point. Believe it or not, some aftermarket (not OEM) parts have been known to be defective....lower cost fuel pumps especially. Hope that is not the case. .
Problem could be one of many things. First and foremost is the intertia switch. Check the fuel pump inertia switch (in trunk mounted to driver side trunk arm) to make sure its not kicked. If the problem is not there, than either the fuel pump relay is bad or there is a bad wiring connection in the circuit.
