Yes, gold has been found in over 300 deposits across Virginia, both placer and lode. At one point the state was the third largest gold producer in the US, but interest waned after the rich California gold deposits were found, and the only current mining is by amateurs. A bit of research and some very hard work with a gold pan or a sluice box will still yield a bit of fine gold from Virginia streams, but don't expect to get rich quick!
