A gun cradle is an apparatus used to hold a gun so you can have hands free access to it for cleaning/inspection. They're generally inexpensive ($20 or so) and consist of two vee-shaped pieces lined with soft rubber inside the vee. The two vees are joined together with at least two rods giving stability to the entire cradle. The firearm will rest snugly inside the vees (either right side up OR upside down) with the cradle gripping the firearm just forward and aft of the receiver. There are also gun/shooting vises that can be used in the same way, however they have an additional use of holding the rifle completely immobile during sighting in (and they're more expensive). km
