The Oil Life Management systems works, but many mechanics and engineers I work with swear by 3,000 miles for conventional oil and 5,000 to 6,000 for synthetic. I change my synthetic oil every 4,000 miles. I have torn down enough engines to know that oil is cheaper than engine rebuilds and although more frequent oil changes are more expensive, it is worth the extra cost to me to keep my engine cleaner and this run better and longer.
