Coil Pack failures are very common in models from 1999-2000. This will lead to unsteady idle, misfires, and Check Engine Lights, in some cases, blinking Check Engine Lights which are the most critical.
Coil Pack failures need to be addressed quickly. Weak spark to the spark plugs can lead to much more fuel left unburnt in the engine, passing directly to the catalytic converter. This shortens the catalytic converter's life considerably, possibly even ruining it enough to raise another Check Engine Light requiring it to be replaced for several hundred dollars (US Dollars!).
There are several online vendors that sell 1999-2000 coil packs. They typically run online for about $260. This includes 2 ignitors and the coil pack bracket/assembly. (See links below for recommended vendors). However, some vendors sell only the ignitors that you can easily replace for a more competitive price.
Replacing the coil pack is not difficult. It is only held by 3 bolts, and 2 electrical plugs. (see below for a tutorial link).
There is a third, 10mm bolt on the bottom of the coil pack. It is very difficult to reach without a small ratchet set or a flexhead wrench. When replacing the coil pack, many Miata owners have mounted it with just the two main bolts and skipped replacing the small 10mm bolt at the back without ill effects.
Most common problems on Miatas are a bad coil pack, Cam Position Sensor, or the Crank Angle Sensor. If you've recently changed the timing belt, it is a common mistake to place the timing wheel on backwards, which will also prevent it from firing.
On the Millenia, each plug has its own coil; there is no distributor. The coils are connected directly to the spark plugs on each cylinder.
The resistance for a coil pack on a 2002 Mazda Millenia typically ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 ohms for the primary winding and around 6,000 to 15,000 ohms for the secondary winding. It's important to measure the resistance with a multimeter when the coil pack is disconnected from the vehicle to ensure an accurate reading. If the resistance values fall outside these ranges, it may indicate a faulty coil pack that should be replaced. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for specific specifications.
If it is on a 1996 Mazda millennia or similar year model, the coil packs on the 2.3 engine on the front are simple. If they are on the back this is a little tricky getting to them. Some wiring harnesses need to be moved around.
On the mounted coil pack from left to right 3;2;1;4 1990, 1991 and 1992 only, and 4;1;2;3 for later models Also, you should know that it fires in 2 cylinders at the same time. It fires on the power stroke on one cylinder and it also fires on the exhaust.
If your air compressor quit after changing the coil pack, you may have additional problems with the compressor. You may want to take the compressor to a service station to have it evaluated.
what is the number coil pack
Follow the wires from the spark plugs and they will go to the distributor unless the engine does not have one and has a coil pack.
Most automobiles will not start with a nonfunctioning coil pack. The coil pack will cause the spark plugs not to fire.
each spark plug has there own coil pack and they cost about $70 each. its on top of each spark plug. one little bolt and a plastic plug.
There is no coil wire. There is a coil pack and connected to the coil pack is the ignition control module.
