Did you try replacing the rotor`s?If they are warped or have groove`s wore in them it will cause this problem. I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR CAR TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC;AND HAVE YOU BRAKE KIT CHECKED.... IT IS A LIL BOX THAT HOLDS ALL YOUR BRAKES HARDWARE. BUT ON MY GRAND AM I HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM AT ONE POINT IT WAS THE BRAKE HARDWARE KIT... AND ONE TIME IT WAS THAT MY BRAKE PADS WHERE FINE EXCEPT THAT MY CALIPER SLIDES DID NOT COME OUT EVENLY...THEY NEEDED GREASED AND THE CYLINDER WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE PAD OUT AGAINST THE ROTOR UNEVENLY.... SO ONE OF THE FRONT 4 BRAKE PADS WHERE WORN DOWN TO THE METAL ON ONE SIDE....SO IT WOULD SOMETIMES HIT THE BRAKE ROTOR SOMETIMES.

Why do cars shimmy when they stop?

If the car shakes when stopping you probably have warp brake rotors (discs). Have a trusted mechanic inspect those brakes for safety sake. Define shimmy. Heavy braking in adverse weather/road conditions will cause the ABS to operate. The ABS works by alternately applying the brakes almost to lock-up and then releasing them. If the shimmy only happens in adverse weather conditions it could be that the ABS needs looking at but it's more likely that you probably need to improve your driving skills.
