loosen distributor bolts and find the sweet spot by moving it everso much remember the original spot though that is factory and must be marked. Your idle might be down because of other sources like inproper vaccumm line on wrong port or no vacc line on port/etc get back to me im here to help all asking....

9 times out of 10 is a your EGR valve stuck open due to rust, do a google search for protege low idle you'll find it! good luck
