The 2004 Santa Fe transmission doesn't have a serviceable filter. There's one deep inside the transmission, but the transmission needs to be removed and disassembled to get to it. The only time that filter would be replaced is if the transmission were overhauled. This is the answer I found online, and after trying to change the filter on a 2002 Santa Fe, I believe it completely.
01 SANTA FE HAS AN INTANK FUEL FILTER THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A LIFETIME FILTER.
In a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, the transmission filter is located inside the transmission assembly. To access it, you typically need to remove the transmission pan, which is situated at the bottom of the transmission. Once the pan is removed, the filter can be replaced. It's advisable to consult the vehicle's service manual for specific instructions and precautions.
inside the transmission pan... Of which...there IS NO pan!! You have to take the trans apart to service it.
Yes, more of a filter screen that you should never have to bother with unless your tranny is shredding.
how to remove transmission on Santa Fe
The Transmission oil filter is on top of the transmission. You can see it when looking into the engine compartment. It is to the left of the Air cleaner air box. It will look just like a oil filter.
The shiftronic transmissions don't have a changeable filter. They are internal just like on the Nissans. If you change the fluid yourself, make sure you get the fluid from the dealership. If you put anything besides Hyundai shitOmatic fluid in it, you'll be replacing the tranny before long.
